Information for AMR deemed registrations Purpose

This info sheet outlines the requirements for interstate security or investigation agents wanting to work in Tasmania using Automatic Mutual Recognition (AMR).

Am I eligible for AMR?

To be eligible to work as a security or investigation agent in Tasmania using AMR, you need:

Security agents using AMR in Tasmania must also display their identity card while undertaking security activities so that it is clearly visible. For persons who are undertaking such activities in Tasmania by virtue of deemed registration, you may use your home state identity card for this purpose.

If you are eligible and want to start working in Tasmania, you must notify the Tasmanian Government of your intention to work via Occupational Licensing - Application Start (justice.tas.gov.au)

A number of circumstances may prevent you from using AMR, including:

  • If you’ve been suspended from holding your licence, or have had conditions imposed on your licence as a result of disciplinary action in your home state or other state/territory;
  • You have been subject to disciplinary, criminal or civil action against you within Australia with respect to your licence;
  • You have been refused a licence in another state/territory; or
  • You have permanently relocated to Tasmania from another state/territory.

What activities can I perform in Tasmania using AMR?

AMR allows you to perform the same work that you are licensed to perform in your home jurisdiction within any other participating jurisdiction.

After notifying the Tasmanian Government of your intention to perform work in Tasmania, and complying with our public protection requirements (including insurance requirements) you can then carry out that same work that you are licensed to perform in your home state within Tasmania.

For Security and Investigation Agents, you are also required to wear your identity card while undertaking security activities so that it is clearly visible. For persons who are undertaking such activities in Tasmania by virtue of deemed registration, you may use your home state identity card for this purpose.

How do I start using AMR in Tasmania?

To start working in Tasmania using AMR you must complete a notification and provide the required information.

As part of completing your notification, you will need to provide a summary of your licence scope of work, proof of your current licence, proof of identity, and evidence of your professional indemnity insurance.

Tasmania may contact other regulators concerning your deemed registration.

You can commence work in Tasmania as soon as you have completed your notification and comply with Tasmania’s public protection requirements.
